Live-in Treatment and Step Up-Step Down Program

Keystone provides a continuum of specialized mental health services for youth ages 12 to 17 who need more clinical support and structure than what regular community-based counselling can provide. These programs help young people who are facing serious emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges that may affect their daily life, relationships, or ability to stay in school or at home.

These services work together to provide a full circle of care, including:

  • Short-term support to help youth feel safe and stable
  • Longer-term treatment for more complex needs
  • Support with returning to school and daily life after treatment

Each youth receives a personalized treatment plan, based on:

  • A full mental health assessment
  • Input and involvement from their family
  • Collaboration with schools and other community partners

The goal is to support recovery, build resilience, and help youth return to home, school, and their community with confidence.

The Step-Up Step-Down Program is a short-term, live-in treatment program for youth who need extra support after a crisis or before returning to home, school, or community life.

This program offers:

  • Six dedicated beds for youth ages 12 to 17
  • Up to six months of structured care
  • A mix of individual therapy, life skills development, and family involvement

The goal of the SUSD program is to help youth feel more stable, supported, and ready for the next step in their mental health and recovery journey.

The Live-In Treatment Program (LIT) provides 24-hour care for youth who have complex mental health needs and require longer-term support in a safe, structured setting.

The program offers:

  • Seven treatment beds
  • Stays of up to one year
  • Individual therapy and support tailored to each youth’s needs
  • On-site schooling through the Bluewater District School Board
  • Regular mental health support from psychiatrists and clinical staff

LIT helps youth work on:

  • Emotional regulation (understanding and managing feelings)
  • Building healthy relationships
  • Learning life skills for long-term stability and personal growth

The goal is to help each youth feel more confident, supported, and ready for life after treatment—whether at home, at school, or in the community.

Keystone’s Day Treatment Program combines school and mental health support in one structured setting. This program supports up to 16 youth whose mental health challenges have made it hard to succeed in a regular school environment.

Students will attend a special classroom where:

  • Education and therapy happen together during the school day
  • Youth learn to manage emotions
  • They build social and relationship skills
  • They work on reconnecting with learning in a safe and supportive space

The goal is to help youth feel more confident and ready to return to their home school when they’re ready.
