Here are some of the frequently asked questions people have about Keystone Child, Youth & Family Services and the services we provide.

Q. Who is Keystone?

Keystone is a child, youth and family service agency providing a range of prevention and counseling programs, at no charge, for residents of Bruce and Grey Counties – Tobermory to Walkerton, Kincardine to Flesherton – an area larger than Prince Edward Island!  We were founded in 1974 and have a dedicated team of 120 service professionals who listen to concerns, answer questions, and respond to needs. 

Q. Who can call Keystone for help and how much does it cost?

Anyone who would like help can call to make a referral!!  There is no charge for any of our services.  Our funding comes from a variety of government, local community and business sources as well as private donations.  Additionally, we are a proud member of our local United Way.

Q. Are you the Children’s Aid Society?

No we are not the Children’s Aid Society.  Our programs are voluntary which means it is your choice to be involved with us.  Our services are Private, Confidential, and Tailor-made to your concerns.

Q. Who are the people who work at Keystone?

The managers and staff at Keystone come with professional backgrounds in a number of disciplines.   These include Counsellors with training in Social Work and Psychology, Community Workers, Child and Youth Workers, Child Care Assistants, Early Education Assistants, Nurses and Administrative Staff.  

In addition, all Keystone teams have access to video telepsychiatric consultations and training through the University of Toronto and Sick Kid’s Hospital.

Q. What programs and services does Keystone provide?

Keystone programs span family needs from pre-natal to counseling for teenagers---and every stage in-between. Just click on the “Programs and Services” section of our site for a complete listing, information and to download a copy of the various descriptive brochures.

Q. How long will I have to wait for service?

Response times vary with those most in need being served first.

Q. Where is Keystone located?

Keystone is located at 1793 3rd Avenue West in Owen Sound.  We offer services in our Owen Sound location, as well as at a variety of other centers throughout Bruce and Grey Counties.  Click here to visit a map showing our various sites.

Q. Where do I receive service?

Keystone works with children, youth and families in the home, in schools, in day care settings and in the community.

Q. Why should I call Keystone for help?

Because we’re here to help you!  Life doesn’t always happen the way you had planned.  At Keystone we build on the existing strengths and resources of children, youth, and their families in your home, school and community.

The Head of the Mental Health Commission of Canada the Honourable Michael Kirby notes that “in the opinion of the Senate Committee “IT IS THE BEST SUCH PROGRAM IN THE COUNTRY”.

Q. How can I become involved in helping Keystone?

At Keystone we always need a helping hand – whether it be from volunteers, from people looking for career opportunities or from those looking to assist with a financial contribution. 

Our recently established “Endowment Fund” hosted by the Community Foundation Grey Bruce is intended to ensure the continuation and growth of our programs which have been recognized provincially and across Canada for our results and creativity.
